This summer, East Side Jews is taking learning to new levels with ongoing classes and workshops!

First up…

“Intersectionality and Class: From 'Leaning In' to Solidarity”

Our first summer workshop, presented by the East Side Jews Activist Collective, is a three-part, discussion-based, interactive workshop with author and professor Ashley Bohrer. In it, we will be examining economic class through the lens of intersectionality; an analysis of inequality that relates to overlapping social and political identities. We’ll examine issues of race, gender, and sexuality, and gain an understanding of how these identities intersect with capitalism. Ultimately we will explore how we can resist oppression by embracing solidarity.

This series is open to anyone interested in politics, and hoping to deepen their analysis of oppression, class, intersectionality, and capitalism. All ages and backgrounds are invited to attend!

The three consecutive Wednesday night sessions will take place May 12, 19th, and 26th at 6pm. Each session will last 90 minutes. If you unable to attend all three sessions but would still like to participate, email us @ eastsidejews@sijcc.net and we will add you to our waitlist.

THIS WORKSHOP IS LIMITED TO 30 PARTICIPANTS.

Ashley Bohrer (she/they) is a scholar-activist based in Chicago. Her academic work focuses on the relationship between exploitation and oppression (check out her book here), and her activist work does too! At the moment, she is most active in Never Again, the Center for Jewish Nonviolence, and Jewish Voice for Peace, but has previously been involved with the Chicago Coalition to Close the Camps, the International Women’s Strike -- US, Occupy Chicago, FURIE, Jews for Justice in Palestine, and a variety of other grassroots collectives. When she isn't buried in books or behind a bullhorn, she can often be found pickling various fruits and veg from her community garden plot. You can read more about her work here: www.ashleybohrer.com.

Capacity limited to 30 participants.
